At only 27 years old, Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London home today (Saturday-July 23rd). Police are stating that after finding her body, it was under conditions they call "unexplained." It is unfortunate that her career and life have been cut short. Winehouse was able to release only two albums; Frank and Back To Black which brought us hit singles such as "Rehab," "You Know I'm No Good" & the title track "Back To Black."
At the start of her career the singer seemed happy and full of life. It was off to a promising start as Amy won 5 awards at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards. She won Best New Artist while her hit "Rehab" earned 3 of the five awards; Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year. The album won Best Pop Vocal Album.
As time went on, her image began to change drastically. Most noticeable was her weight change. In 2004 the singer looked healthy but later photos show Amy in a very, scary, thin frame.
It became evident that the singer was troubled. She was heavily addicted to drugs and alcohol. With fame, the addiction seemed to increase. We started to see her in rehad & jail more than we did on a stage. When she did take the stage, there were times when fans booed her...leading her to cancel her tour.
Although she battled her demons in life, fans took to Amy immediately. "Her tattooed arms and towering beehive made her an instant antidote to the Britneys and Christinas that had for too long dominated the pop-music landscape, and her constant run-ins and flare-ups (and lack of concern for her public image) made her a true rebel in every sense of the word."

At such a young age, Amy, unfortunately, joins the "27 Club" (Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain & Jimi Hendrix to name a few) who brought so much to music but whose lives were cut short...all who died at the age of 27 and who possibly struggled with drugs and alcohol over a long period of time.
